At The Woods, we provide a foundation that cultivates a lifelong love of learning grounded in peace, respect, independence, and excellence.
“The first duty of an education is to stir up life, but leave it free to develop”
– Maria Montessori
“To aid life, leaving it free, however, that is the basic task of the educator.”
– Maria Montessori
“The greatest development is achieved during the first years of life, and therefore it is then that the greatest care should be taken.”
– Maria Montessori, The Absorbent Mind
What exactly are children learning in the Sensorial area of a Montessori classroom? So much more than meets the eye!
Sensorial materials help children refine their senses by inviting them to explore differences in size, shape, color, texture, sound, and more. Through hands-on work, children practice sorting, matching, comparing, and sequencing while also developing concentration, coordination, and problem-solving skills.
This work lays an important foundation for future learning, while giving children the freedom to explore and discover at their own pace.
We love seeing the focus and curiosity that comes to life during Sensorial work!

✨ Practical Life✨
In a Montessori classroom, everyday tasks become meaningful opportunities for children to learn, grow, and become more independent.
Our Toddler and Children’s House students practice skills like pouring, transferring, washing, flower arranging, food preparation, dressing, folding, and caring for their classroom.
It might look like “just” pouring water or wiping a table, but there’s so much happening underneath: concentration, coordination, confidence, independence, and responsibility.
And honestly, some of our favorite moments are watching a child finish a work, step back, and realize, “I did that all by myself!”
💬 Parents, what’s something your child insists on doing “all by myself” right now? We’d love to hear it!
