Have you ever wondered how children begin their journey toward reading and writing in a Montessori Children’s House classroom? 📚✍🏽
Before children begin reading books or writing sentences, they build important foundational skills through hands-on language materials.
Sandpaper letters help children connect the shape of a letter with its sound by tracing it with their fingers. The movable alphabet allows them to begin building words before they have mastered handwriting, while matching objects to sounds helps them hear and recognize the individual sounds in words.
Each material has a purpose, and children work with them as they are ready. By seeing, touching, hearing, and working with language, children develop the skills they need to become confident readers and writers.

We 🫶 math in a Montessori classroom!
Our math materials give children a way to see and feel what numbers mean. They can hold a quantity in their hands, compare which group has more, and physically put groups together or take them apart.
That hands-on experience help children develop a deep understanding of mathematical concepts. Instead of simply memorizing an answer, children begin to see the relationships behind the numbers and understand why the answers make sense. As their confidence grows, children gradually move from concrete materials to abstract work on paper, carrying that strong foundation with them. 🔢📐
